There's a new trend going on at the moment in the Uk, small Italian plates (sometimes known as cicchetti, or spuntino) are popping up on menus all over London. The Italian version of tapas, they are perfect for picking at over a glass of wine, or making a proper meal of. We visited one of our favourite restaurants in London for Italian tapas, San Carlo Cicchetti in Piccadilly. We have been going there for many years, the one in Piccadilly is our favourite, we love the decor, the atmosphere and the food, it also helps as we know the manager very well as he used to work for us many years ago before heading off to London. It was one night a few months ago that we thought why don't we bring this idea to Leighton Buzzard. We often have customers popping in at 6pm before going to the theatre and they do not always want a huge meal so we decided to bring Cicchetti to Martini and now offer a Italian style tapas menu every Thursday evening. We also decided to offer tasting wines from our extensive wine list giving customers the opportunity to try some different wines without having to buy a bottle. This has proved hugely popular and we wish we had done it sooner.
Originally in the old days in Venice taverns serving cicchetti (from the Italian verb to pick) sprang up to feed workers on the canal boats. Who would have thought that years later it would become a fashionable trend in London. I think its a brilliant idea and really hope it takes off and our customers enjoy our new nibbles menu.
Gorgonzola piccante one of the oldest cheese in the world and is available on cheeseboard.
This lovely wine is available on our wine tasting menu and has been very popular.
